It looks like pretty similar as a mock orange tree but if you pay close attention, the green leaves are much wider than the mock orange tree. Also the petals are fewer than in a orange tree flower. Honestly, I stopped by because I have been mesmerized by its delicious fragance and as I know it exists hundreds of jasmine species, I thought it could be one of its species. The perfume is more of a jasmine than any other trees. Nonetheless, it is definitely a serynga which counts 40 species on its own, which is anyhow called "The jasmine of the poet"! So yes dear, to answer your question it is the Jasmine of the Poet (Philadelphus)! and you had a jasmine of the poet in your garden then
I'm afraid I can't compare but from memory, ours didn't survive the winter Thanks for the information, maybe I can negotiate a replacement with your jasmine of the poet. (Sounds like something out of Keats!)
